Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way is to send me a message through the Contact page, or reach me on Facebook or Instagram, and I will arrange a time that suits you. If you are already a client, you will have my number, so feel free to text or call.
Where is the studio, and will it just be me?
My studio is a dedicated space inside my home in Godmanchester, and it is always just you and me, never a busy salon. It is calm, private and relaxed, and the exact address is shared once your appointment is confirmed.
Is the studio private?
Completely. The studio door has a lock that can only be operated from the inside, so once your appointment begins we will not be interrupted, and the window has a privacy screen so we cannot be seen from outside. It is a genuinely private space, which matters enormously for treatments like waxing, and means you can relax entirely.
Are you fully qualified?
Yes. I trained first as a beauty therapist, earning my CIDESCO and CIBTAC diplomas and my VTCT qualifications, and I am now an award-winning nail artist, a Professional Beauty Awards 2024 winner and a Scratch Awards finalist three years running. I am also a certified trainer for Missu, Magpie and Lecente. You can read more about me.
I have never had my nails done before, is that ok?
Absolutely, and you are very welcome. I will talk you through everything, help you choose what suits you, and there is no judgement here at all, just a relaxed treatment in a friendly space.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Come with clean, product-free nails where possible. If you are wearing gel or extensions from elsewhere, I can remove them for you (a removal charge applies, see the price list). Please avoid cutting your cuticles beforehand.
How long does an appointment take?
It depends on the treatment. As a rough guide, a gel manicure is around an hour, while extensions or detailed nail art take a little longer. I never rush, so your time with me is always calm and unhurried.
What is the difference between a gel manicure, builder gel and extensions?
A gel manicure gives your natural nails colour and a long-lasting, glossy finish. Builder gel adds a little strength and structure on top of your own nails, without adding length. Extensions add length, sculpted to the shape you would like. If you are not sure which is right for you, just ask and I will happily advise.
Do you offer nail art?
Nail art is my specialty and what I am best known for. It is hand-painted, completely bespoke, and has been recognised with industry awards. From a single delicate accent to a full intricate set, anything is possible. It is charged by time and added on top of your base treatment, so see the price list for guide timings, and take a look at the Nail Art page.
Can I bring my own design ideas?
Please do! Photos, screenshots, colours, a theme, anything that inspires you is welcome, and I will bring it to life with my own spin. I especially love designing for an occasion, whether that is a race weekend, a holiday, a birthday, a concert or Christmas, so if you are counting down to something, do tell me. Equally, if you would like me to design something just for you, that is one of my favourite things to do.
Do you offer pedicures?
Yes, at a dedicated pedicure station with a comfortable, electronically adjustable chair, using the Footlogix professional foot care range. From a simple gel polish to a deluxe, soothing treat, take a look at the Pedicures Beauty page.
How long will my nails last?
Most clients enjoy two to three weeks of wear before a rebalance, though this varies with your nail growth and lifestyle. Booking your rebalance in good time keeps your nails looking their best.
How do I look after my nails between appointments?
Apply cuticle oil daily, wear gloves for cleaning and washing up, and try not to use your nails as tools. If a nail chips or lifts, get in touch rather than picking at it.
Will gel or extensions damage my natural nails?
Not when they are applied and removed properly. I take real care with prep and with gentle removal, never forcing anything off, so your natural nails stay healthy underneath. Picking or peeling gel off at home is what causes damage, so if anything lifts, please come and see me.
What happens if I break a nail?
Not to worry. I offer nail fixes and single-nail repairs, priced on the service list. Just let me know when you book.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes, for lash treatments. If you are having a lash lift or tint with me for the first time, I will need to carry out a quick patch test at least 48 hours beforehand. It only takes a moment, and it is there to make sure your skin is happy with the products before we go ahead. Patch tests also need repeating every six months, even if you are a regular, so do allow for that when you book.
What is the difference between a Korean and a traditional lash lift?
I am trained in both, which means we can pick whichever suits you. A traditional lift curls the lash over a shaped shield, giving a soft, classic curl that opens up the eye beautifully. A Korean lift works in smaller sections and lifts right from the root, which gives a more precise, fanned and noticeably lifted finish. Neither is better than the other, they simply create different looks, so we will talk it through and choose the one that flatters your eye shape and lashes best.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations inside 48 hours are charged 50% of the treatment fee, and cancellations inside 24 hours, on the day, or no shows are charged in full. The full policy is on my Terms of Business page.
Do you offer training?
Yes, and it is something I love. Nail art is my specialty, and I teach advanced techniques to other professionals at industry events, one to one in my studio, and in small online group sessions, alongside workshops for all levels. See the Nail Art and Training Academy pages.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Absolutely! If you would like to treat someone you love to a fabulous new set of nails, a relaxing pedicure, or simply a bit of well-deserved pampering, a gift voucher is perfect. They are available for any service or any amount, so just send me a message and I will happily sort one out.
